Happy Halloween! (a bit belated)

Recently, I found the CUTEST ever picture in Real Simple magazine.  Sooo, I pirated it and turned it into a Halloween Card for Chicken Little.  (Is it pirating if you bought the magazine?  No?  I didn't think so.)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!  Three little piggies!  L.O.V.E.  I added the "costumes" to make them seasonally appropriate.

And what did I put inside?

Get it?  And this little piggy went "wee, wee, wee,wee all the way home."  Of course you get it!

Ha ha ha ha ha!  I crack myself up!

And because once just wasn't enough, here they are again....

CL's sister (Lola) also made her a card, but I'm not home and I don't have the cord to get it off of my camera, so I'll post it later this week even though it will be late.

I hope all your little piggies had a safe and happy Halloween!

True 'dat

I'm thinking about a new series of posts: quotes and ideas (truths) that resonate with me.  This may be the only one in the series (of course then it wouldn't really be a "series"), or it may not.  Just thinkin' and postin'...

(btw: the photo isn't mine - I just found it in MS clip art)

Minimalism

For a really long time, I've lived my life with a "more is more" mind set.  In some areas, this isn't so bad.  In others (like food and shopping!), it's not such a good thing.

So, last year some of you may remember the Halloween House, and all the decorating I did. If not, you can check it out here

This year I've adopted a new approach.  I've been decorated since the end of August...

Isn't he cute?!  That's my nod to Halloween. I bought him right before I took Chicken Little back to school, and he's been on display ever since.  (I was just too lazy to put him away.)

The card is from CL.  Give a hoot, cause it's so cute.  (LOL - ugh!)  CL has also been prepared for Halloween for quite a while because she made all of these cards while she was home this summer.  Give her credit - she did wait to send it until just a few weeks ago.

So, that's pretty much it, except for the mantle.

I kinda like it.

AND when it comes time to switch it out for Thanksgiving.... BAM!  I'm done.  :-)

I think I could really begin to embrace this whole minimalist thing.

Sweet Home Alabama All Summer Long...

I LOVE me some Kid Rock!

We saw him a couple of times this summer.  He puts on an AWESOME show!

Even if you don't like him, the audience is a hoot! Lots of fun people watching. ;-)

I tell ya, if I weren't a "grown up," I would be in serious danger of becoming a white-trash groupie.

How to draw a nekkid man

Chicken Little sent me this, saying she thought I might relate.

Dog Days

Some days you just want to stay in bed and pull the covers over your head.

Other days you just try to keep your head down and make it through.

And then, there are those days when you just can't wait to take a bite out of life!

(I know, she's gross.)

Signs

A couple of months ago - this summer - I felt like my life was breaking apart (and it was).  Most days I would pull into the parking garage at my office and I would spend 5 - 30 (yes, 30!) minutes in my car trying to talk myself into walking into the building.

On this particular day, I couldn't even make it into the garage.  I pulled into the Visitor Parking in front of the building.  I was just sitting there, staring at the wall, trying to muster up the will and the energy to do what I needed to do.  I admit that I was wallowing a bit, but I was desperate.

I started praying for a sign - any sign. (In case you weren't aware, I'm a big fan of signs.) But I needed it right this minute - something to show me that everything was going to be ok - and I needed it before I was late for my first meeting.

As I sat there telling myself not to be so dramatic while begging for a sign, my little friend here landed on the sign that was right in front of me! (Brave Girls out there you know the symbolism of the bird.)  And this little truth teller just sat there looking at me.

It was like he was looking at me and saying "You need a sign? Seriously?! HOW ABOUT THIS ONE?!  Read the sign... duh!"  Of course it was going to be ok, it always is.  I just had to visit this place, for this time, to learn these lessons, but it would not be forever.  I finally saw the sign that was right in front of me.

Things are still a bit shaky, but they are getting better.  I didn't want to go into that horrible place any more, and now I don't have to.  I've been given the opportunity to find a place where I want to be and where I feel welcome.

Today, I have traveled halfway across the country on my search for that place.  Maybe this is the one, maybe it's not... but I'm sure that if I look closely I will see the signs I need.

Joy

I love color! ...and I love instant gratification.  And that's what this little project was all about.

Take all those broken crayons and peel the paper off.  Or not - that was the most tedious part, and I think it would be fine if the paper was left on.

Hot glue them to the top of a canvas, and then hit 'em with your heat gun.  I tried a hair dryer also, but it ended up blowing the wax too much.

I did this over an old cookie sheet and after I finished the first one, I noticed the drips!  OMG!  L.O.V.E.  Wish that I had done it over a big canvas....

So, I had to make a couple more just to try it.  It didn't work as well as the cookie sheet, but still pretty groovy. I think it would be REALLY awesome if the canvas background was painted black or charcoal first.

How can this not make you happy, happy, happy?

This was fun, but I have absolutely NO idea what I'm going to do with these.  Does anybody out there want one?  If so, shoot me an email.

Just puttin' it out there....

It was truly a blessing that my last day at my old job was August 31.  It was a toxic environment that I am so happy to have left.  Since then, I have been spending at least 40 hours a week trying to find my next gig.  I want to land somewhere that I will L.O.V.E. to go every day, and where I can have an impact.

I've got a bunch of irons in the fire and I'm getting closer...  This has been my goal:  to have at least one great offer (preferably more) no later than October 21, 2011.  I want to start before Thanksgiving (and before the severance runs out)!

Fingers crossed, big prayers, God willin' and the creek don't rise!
