Mantel & Music

This year I did manage to keep my Christmas mantel pretty simple.

I just added a  pinecone garland, come candles and the reindeer and I was done!  And I like it!

We don't put our stockings on the mantel.  Instead, I hang them on a halltree that sits by the garage door entry way.  I've been doing this for the past couple of years, and it works for us!  Plus, when Santa comes, we don't have to worry about them being too heavy for those flimsy stocking hooks.  Woo hoo - fill 'em up, Santa - we've been good (mostly) this year!

25 Days of Christmas

12. What's your favorite Christmas song?

It changes every year, but here are a couple I'm liking right now:

U2's version of It's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Trisha Yearwood singing Sweet Little Jesus Boy, and of course, let me date myself by adding this one:

Sweet Home Alabama All Summer Long...

I LOVE me some Kid Rock!

We saw him a couple of times this summer.  He puts on an AWESOME show!

Even if you don't like him, the audience is a hoot! Lots of fun people watching. ;-)

I tell ya, if I weren't a "grown up," I would be in serious danger of becoming a white-trash groupie.

Confession: Stealing Away

So, last night I said I was going to take down the Christmas decorations.   Buuuutttt, I was presented with a much more appealing opportunity.  Chicken Little wanted to go to see Country Strong, the new Gwyneth Paltrow movie.
Country Strong Poster
I like a good, cheesy story, but this one was a bit choppy in parts.  Chicken Little and I totally disagree on this point - she loved it.  I thought it was entertaining, but it was pretty high up there on the cheese-o-meter.

On the other hand, the soundtrack was darn good.  According to the credits, the actors sang their own songs, and they held their own.  There was one song that was played in the background of one scene, and I LOVED it!  I've listened to it about 5 times already.  The song doesn't show up on the soundtrack CD, and the performance credits in the movie went to someone else, but it is the Randy Rogers Band song, Steal You Away - found it on you tube and I will be downloading it from itunes shortly.  Enjoy...

If you like country music, go see the movie, just don't waste your time trying to figure out who likes who.  :-)

Love this song!

In the background

Been busy, busy, busy the last few days, and this cd has been in the background all weekend!  This is The Band Perry, and I am loving them.

So many catchy tunes, they'll just get stuck in your head.  This is one of my favorites.

PS:  Not that I'm already listening to Christmas music or anything, but I am also LOVING Very Merry Christmas, the new Christmas album by Dave Barnes (I know I'm dating myself by calling it an album). Just sayin'...  It was only $6.99 on itunes.

Girl's Got Guts

Are you kidding me?!  Gwyneth? Really?

I was prepared to hate her and feel sorry for her for embarrassing herself on the CMA's. Well, I have nothing to say, except she was AMAZING!

Before tonight, I would see her on various things, but never really paid much attention.  I was kind of neutral, but now I am impressed.  This took guts, and she did a great job.  There's something just not right about someone being so talented in multiple areas and pretty and skinny and stylish and smart (at least she seems to be).  Good for her!

Did you see it?  Were you as surprised as I was?
